Who's eligible

You need to meet at least one of the criteria below.

Students

  • Entitled to free school meals at a non-independent school.
  • Receiving any UK-recognised bursary, such as the 16–19 Bursary Fund, Local Authority support or the Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA).
  • Living or studying in a POLAR quintile 1 to 4 area.
  • Taking part in, or having completed, a higher education access programme, such as MAP, a Sutton Trust programme or an Oxford access programme.

Parents or guardians

  • Receiving any form of income support, or Universal Credit.
  • Receiving Disability Living Allowance (DLA).
  • Receiving Personal Independence Payment (PIP).

What evidence should I attach?

Anything that shows which criterion you meet, such as a letter confirming free school meals or a bursary. Only include what we need to assess your application.

Can a parent apply for their child?

Yes. Choose "Parent or guardian", add your details, then explain the circumstances that apply to your child or household.

What if I'm not sure I qualify?

Apply anyway. Explain your circumstances as clearly as you can and we'll review them.

Is approval guaranteed?

No. We review every application individually and may ask for more information before confirming eligibility.
